Rajkumar Santoshi sentenced to prison
According to a report in Desh Gujarat, a local businessman filed a complaint against Santoshi and later moved to court with it. Reportedly Rajkumar was looking for capital and a financier for his projects, which is why his friend and Jamnagar-based businessman Ashok Lal lent him a loan of Rs 1 crore. In return for the loan, Santoshi had agreed to pay the friend back with 10 cheques of his own for Rs 10 lakh each. However, all of Rajkumar’s cheques bounced due to a lack of balance in his account.
The reports also suggest that Lal had previously tried to connect with Santoshi after sending him a legal notice, but they remained unanswered. Later in 2017, he filed the case under the Negotiable Instrument Act of 1881. Following this, Rajkumar Santoshi was summoned to the court with respect to the case. In his verdict, Judge VG Gadhvi sentenced Rajkumar Santoshi to two years of imprisonment and a fine worth double the amount of the cheques bounced.
