The BJP replaced five sitting MPs with new faces in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. In Haryana, the BJP dropped its sitting MP Sunita Duggal to field Ashok Tanwar from the Sirsa seat, reserved for the Scheduled Caste.
The BJP has dropped nearly 21% of sitting MPs in the two lists that it has released so far. This includes six of the sitting MPs from seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi – Manoj Tiwari from Northeast Delhi is the only MP who has been given a ticket again.
Parvesh Verma, the Sitting MP from West Delhi, has been replaced with Kamaljeet Sehrawat. Similarly, Ramesh Bidhuri, who represented South Delhi, has been replaced with Ramvir Singh Bidhuri.
Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of former Union minister Sushma Swaraj, will contest from the New Delhi constituency, a seat currently represented by Meenakshi Lekhi. Union Minister Harsh Vardhan’s Chandini Chowk seat has been given to Lok Praveen Khandelwal.
