The resurgence of the protest, dubbed “Delhi Chalo 2.0,” comes after a stalemate in talks between farmer leaders and the central government over the critical issue of MSP assurance.
Amidst escalating tensions and unresolved discussions on Minimum Support Price (MSP) assurance, farmers are set to resume their protests, marching towards Delhi once again. This time, the movement sees a surge in the number of active farmer organizations from 32 in 2020 to 50 now, highlighting the growing divisions within the farmer community. The initiative to march to Delhi is led by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, comprising 250 farmers’ unions, and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, which represents an additional 150 unions.
Initially united under the banner of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), the farmer movement has now fragmented into distinct entities, including SKM (Punjab), SKM (Non-political), and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), TOI reported. Additionally, the formation of Sanyukt Samaj Morcha (SSM) aimed at contesting Punjab assembly elections further complicated the landscape.
