Dense fog in Delhi-NCR disrupted train and flight services on Friday. The weather department anticipated a reduction in fog density after February 4 and 5.
Parts of Delhi-NCR woke up to dense fog on Friday, even as rain lashed some north Indian states a day earlier.
According to news agency ANI, train and flight services were affected due to lowered visibility in the national capital. Delhi’s IGI Airport reported zero visibility since 6 am today.
Visuals shared on social media showed dense fog on streets in Delhi.
The India Meteorological Department said very dense fog was observed over some parts of Delhi at 5.30 am today.
Dense fog was also observed in isolated pockets of Haryana, Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha, it said, adding, moderate fog was seen in isolated pockets of West Bengal.
The IMD also shared a satellite image indicating fog/low clouds over south Punjab, south Haryana, Delhi, northeast Rajasthan, southwest Uttar Pradesh, extreme southwest Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
On Thursday, Delhi experienced a minimum temperature of 12.3 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature reached 18.6 degrees Celsius.
The weather department said it anticipated a rise in rainfall in February, “exceeding 122 per cent of the Long Period Average (LPA).”. LPA is the average rainfall recorded in a region over a specific time.
The density of fog will reduce and noticeable changes in weather will be seen after February 4 and 5, the weather department said.
RAIN, SNOW IN OTHER STATES
Several parts of Rajasthan received light showers on Thursday, owing to a western disturbance in the region.
The weather office forecast the activation of another new western disturbance on February 3-4, leading to a strong possibility of light to moderate rain coupled with thunderstorms in some parts of Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions.
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy snowfall continued in the high hills and tribal areas of Himachal Pradesh the same day, while the state capital received the first snowfall of the season, bringing cheers to residents, tourists and farmers.
Shimla was wrapped in a thin blanket of snow, while the 5-km stretch between Kufri and Fagu was entirely covered in snow.
Video shows Lahaul Spiti covered in a blanket of thick snow. Schools and colleges in the region were ordered shut till February 3 due to heavy snowfall.
