Abhijit Gangopadhyay joined the BJP on Thursday, days after resigning as a judge in the Calcutta High Court.
Days after resigning as a judge in the Calcutta High Court, Abhijit Gangopadhyay joined the BJP on Thursday. State leaders Subhendu Adhikari, Sukanta Mazumder and Mangal Pandey from central leadership were present.
Earlier, on Tuesday, after tendering his resignation, Abhijit Gangopadhyay had announced that he would be joining the BJP.
Abhijit Gangopadhyay was given a grand welcome at the BJP office in Salt Lake, Bengal, as state party president Sukanta Majumdar handed him the party flag.
“Today, I have joined a new field. I am happy to join the BJP and will work as a party soldier. Our objective is to oust the corrupt TMC regime from the state,” he said after joining the party officially.
Abhijit Gangopadhyay also came down heavily on the Mamata Banerjee-led Bengal government and said his prime focus would be to uproot the ‘ferocious’ government from the state.
“The time has come to uproot a corrupt government from West Bengal. They have caused serious harm to the state,” the former judge slammed the Trinamool Congress.
“I feel extremely depressed when I see Bengal is going down day by day, which is not acceptable to me as a Bengali. We have to start a huge agitation to remove the ferocious political party which believes in terrorism and terrorizing people and does not have respect for women for the state,” he added.
