Online food delivery platform Zomato has responded to a viral video in which a delivery person claimed to have earned only Rs 300 while fulfilling orders on Diwali. The Meerut-based Zomato agent claimed that he worked six hours on Diwali, delivering a total of eight orders. This incident sparked a wider conversation about the working conditions of delivery partners during festivals.
Following the criticism, Zomato issued a clarification on the social media platform, labelling the video “inaccurate and disturbing.” The company stated that the delivery partner did not work on Diwali, and his income figures reported in the video do not reflect the actual earnings. Zomato emphasised that they prioritise competitive earnings for their delivery partners, especially during festive times.
“Recent articles around one of our delivery partners from Meerut earning Rs 300 for working more than 6 hours on the day of Diwali were inaccurate and disturbing to us. Our delivery partners are at the heart of our service, and we ensure they are offered great earning opportunities to appreciate their hard work and dedication, especially during festivals,” Zomato wrote in a post on X.
The company added that the delivery partner did not work on Diwali. “He worked for 6 hours on 30th October (he did not log in on the day of Diwali, as mentioned in the news articles). He delivered 10 orders and cumulatively earned Rs 695. On the same day, a lot of delivery partners who devoted an average of 10 hours in Meerut earned between Rs 1200-Rs 1300, “ the post read.
In the tweet, the food delivery giant also stated, “Misreported figures and narratives can impact the livelihood, motivation, and dignity of individuals working in these roles. We request everyone to avoid spreading misinformation.”

Zomato delivery agent, Ritik Tomar shared an Instagram Reels, narrating how he relentlessly worked on Diwali to deliver food orders. Starting his shift at 5 PM, Ritik showed his surroundings decked up with decorations and lights as he went from one delivery to the next.
