CJI DY Chandrachud Warns Lawyer Over This
I will have you removed from the court, said Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud on Tuesday criticising a senior counsel who sought the court’s intervention to remove Mamata Banerjee from her position as West Bengal Chief Minister for her alleged failure to act following the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.
The Supreme Court witnessed heated exchanges during its ongoing suo-moto hearing into the Kolkata rape-murder case on Tuesday.

As the court was about to conclude its session for the day, a senior counsel filed an interlocutory application calling for the resignation of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Responding to the counsel, CJI Chandrachud expressed his disapproval of the application’s political nature.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud intervened and said, “This is not a political forum, you are a member of the bar, we don’t require your affirmation to what we say. What you say has to abide by the rules of legal discipline. We are not here to see what you feel about a particular political functionary or the other, that is not out concern. We are specifically dealing with the grievances of doctors. If you ask me to direct that the Chief Minister should resign that is not part of the Court’s remit.”
