Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj on Wednesday and at around 11 am, he will take a holy dip at the Sangam, his office said in a statement.
Maha Kumbh 2025, which commenced on January 13, is the world’s largest spiritual and cultural gathering, attracting devotees from across the globe. The Maha Kumbh will continue until Mahashivratri on February 26.
Prime Minister Modi will visit Maha Kumbh Mela 2025 in Prayagraj on February 5, it said. At around 11 am, he will take a holy dip at the Sangam and offer prayers to Maa Ganga. However, there has been no official word if the Prime Minister take a dip at the Sangam nose.
PM Modi earlier visited Prayagraj in December last year when he inaugurated 167 development projects worth Rs 5,500 crore, improving connectivity, amenities and services for the general public.
Security Tighetend After Kumbh Stampede
Security has been tightened in the Mela region for Prime Minister Modi’s visit. The Uttar Pradesh government had reinforced security and crowd management measures after the Mauni Amavasya stampede. At least 30 people were killed and 60 others injured in a stampede that broke out at the Maha Kumbh Mela on January 29.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has been personally inspecting preparations and security management as additional personnel, medical staff, and resources have been deployed to ensure a ‘zero-error’ at the fair.
30 Killed In Kumbh Stampede
The pre-dawn stampede at the Sangam area of the Maha Kumbh broke out as millions of pilgrims jostled for space to take a holy dip on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. According to Uttar Pradesh Police, the stampede-like situation happened at the Kumbh Mela because the crowd gathered ahead of time for the snan and broke barriers.
Following the unfortunate incident, the third ‘Amrit Snan’ on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami was held amid a tight vigil.
SC Rejects Plea On Kumbh Stampede
The Supreme Court on Monday, February 3, rejected a plea seeking action against Uttar Pradesh government officials over the Maha Kumbh Stampede. Referring to the stampede as “unfortunate”, the Supreme Court rejected the plea and asked the petitioner to approach the High Court instead.
