Lucknow police have registered a case of sedition against folk singer Neha Singh Rathore over a complaint that her provocative social media posts targeting a particular faith community in the wake of the Pahalgam tragedy could harm the nation’s unity.
Lucknow police have registered a sedition case against her after a formal complaint was loged by an individual named Abhay Pratap Singh. Abhay accused Rathore of sharing objectionable material on her X account, alleging that her posts were designed to creatge discord among religious communities and harm national unity.
“In this situation, singer and poetess Neha Singh Rathore, using her Twitter [now X] handle @nehafolksinger made some objectionable posts that can adversely affect the national integrity and made repeated efforts to incite one community against another based on religion,” the complainant Abhay Pratap Singh said.

The complaint was registered at the Hazratganj police station in Lucknow.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case against the folk singer on multiple charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including attempting to promote sectarian animosity, disturbing public tranquillity and endangering the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India, police said, adding that she has also been booked under the Information Technology Act.

Neha, in the video, claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will now be seeking votes in Bihar in the name of the Pahalgam attack, just like after the 2019 Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

Bhojpuri folk singer and political satirist, Neha Singh Rathore is known for her sharp and socially conscious compositions. Born in 1997 in Jandaha, Bihar, was pursued a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree from Kanpur University graduating in 2018.
Rathore began her musical journey in 2019, initially recording Bhojpuri folk songs on her mobile phone and sharing them on Facebook. She later in May 2020 launched her own YouTube chanel to highlight the hardships faced by migrant workers during the COVID-19 lockdown.
