When Will Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains Launch? Railway Minister Shares Big Update

Ahead of its anticipated launch, the first prototype of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train has already been manufactured and is scheduled to undergo field trials soon.

New Delhi: In a bid to enhance the passenger experience, Indian Railways is set to introduce the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train, with the aim of offering a more comfortable and efficient option for long-distance travel. The Railway Ministry has confirmed that efforts are being made to launch the sleeper version of the Vande Bharat train series at the earliest. Once operational, this will be the third variant of the Vande Bharat trains, following the Vande Bharat Express (Chair Car) and Vande Metro (Namo Bharat Rapid Rail).
Ahead of its anticipated launch, the first prototype of the Vande Bharat Sleeper train has already been manufactured and is scheduled to undergo field trials soon. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw made this announcement in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. However, he noted that the timeline for the rollout of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train will depend on the successful completion of these trials.
Vaishnaw further stated that the introduction of new train services, including variants like the Vande Bharat series, is an ongoing process. These additions are evaluated based on factors such as traffic justification, operational feasibility, and resource availability.

Key Features of the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train

Designed specifically for long-distance journeys, the Vande Bharat Sleeper Train aims to redefine passenger comfort. Vaishnaw had earlier said that there will be separate berths for train attendants on the train. “There will be a separate berth for train attendants so they can get some rest. The loco pilot’s cabin will also be air-conditioned and equipped with separate toilet for them.”
With state-of-the-art features and modern amenities, the sleeper trains will include key safety and operational upgrades. Some of the highlighted features are:
  • Kavach automatic train protection system
  • Compliance with the latest fire-safety standards
  • Crashworthy semi-permanent couplers
  • Regenerative braking system for energy efficiency
  • Quicker acceleration and deceleration for improved average speeds
  • The introduction of the sleeper train also promises to bolster the efficiency and safety of long-haul train travel, offering an elevated experience to passengers.

Vande Bharat Sleeper: Proposed Routes

Regarding the proposed routes, Minister Vaishnaw mentioned that the Indian Railways network spans across state boundaries, and the new trains will be introduced as per the specific needs of the network across these areas.
The Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains are expected to play a significant role in transforming train travel in India. Combining speed, comfort, and efficiency, these trains will cater to long-haul passengers, ensuring a smoother and more reliable journey.
