On December 1, Vikrant Massey left the industry and his fans stunned as he took to social media to announce his retirement from acting. Known for his versatility and compelling performances, Vikrant’s unexpected decision comes at a time when he is riding the wave of success in his career.
In his heartfelt post, Vikrant wrote: “Hello, The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each and every one of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realise it’s time to recalibrate and go back home. As a Husband, Father & a Son. And also as an Actor. So, coming 2025, we would meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right. Last 2 movies and many a years of memories. Thank you again. For everything and everything in between. Forever indebted.”
This announcement has left fans and colleagues in disbelief. Many took to the comments section to express their shock and disappointment. One user wrote, “Why would you that? There are hardly any actors like you. We need some good cinema.” Another commented, “Leaving a legendary career behind,” while a third wrote, “I hope it’s not true.”
On The Work Front
Vikrant’s retirement comes on the heels of his recent successes. Just last year, he delivered a critically acclaimed performance in 12th Fail, portraying IPS Manoj Kumar Sharma. His August release, Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, saw him reprise his role as Rishu with greater intensity. His latest outing, The Sabarmati Report, has been widely lauded, even earning praise from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
At the recently concluded 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Vikrant was honoured with the Personality of the Year award. During the closing ceremony, he reflected on his career choices, saying, “I always try to work responsibly. Whether it is 12th Fail, Sector 36, or The Sabarmati Report, there is always an effort to entertain people while also being part of responsible cinema.”
Vikrant’s latest film, The Sabarmati Report, was also screened at IFFI and has been declared tax-free in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh. Based on the real-life events surrounding the Godhra train incident, the social drama has struck a chord with audiences, collecting Rs 22 crore at the national box office since its release on November 15.
