After Alia Bhatt, Swara Bhasker, Vijay Varma, Parineeti Chopra, Kareena Kapoor, and Kangana Ranaut, former actress and author Twinkle Khanna has reacted to the brutal rape and murder of a young trainee doctor in Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. Twinkle took to her Instagram handle to share a note which had the background of the Indian flag. In her note, Twinkle wrote, “Fifty years on this planet, in this country, and I am teaching my daughter the same things I was taught as a child.”

“Don’t go alone–to the park, to school, to the beach. Don’t go alone with any man, even if it’s your uncle, cousin, or friend. Don’t go alone in the morning, the evening, and especially not at night”, read her note further.

It then read, “Don’t go alone because it’s not a matter of if, but when. Don’t go alone because you may never come back.”

Twinkle’s strong note was one among many celebrity notes that highlighted the country’s unsafe environment for women and how even after 78 years of Independence, there has been no relief for women. Previously, Preity Zinta, Richa Chadha, and Tisca Chopra, among others raised their concerns and demanded justice for the 31-year-old victim. Many even demanded for stricter rules to put an end to such heinous crimes in the country.
