The Chief Minister expressing concern compared the spread of AI-generated misinformation as “digital pandemic” worse than COVID-19 and urged the officials to pursue legal action and bolster cybercrime defences to counter misinformation orders
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, former Telangana minister G. Jagadish Reddy, social media influencer Dhruv Rathee, and actors John Abraham, Dia Mirza, and Raveena Tandon were among those who shared Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated misinformation on the Kancha Gachibowli lands, officials informed Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at a high-level meeting on the issue here on Saturday.
The review meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, ministers Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, D. Anasuya Seethakka and Director General of Police Jithender, among others. The offficials also expressed serious concern that ‘fabricated media, including audio of distressed peacocks and videos showing deer injured by bulldozers, had gone viral.’ They said they had identified AI-generated content falsely depicting ecological destruction, shared widely by celebrities and politicians, including a Union Minister.
