Punjab CM Mann’s 1st decision: Govt to recruit 25,000

Punjab’s new cabinet, led by chief minister Bhagwant Mann, took its first decision on Saturday – undertaking recruitments for 25,000 government jobs in the state. Of these, 10,000 jobs will be for various positions in Punjab police while the remaining will be in other government departments, boards and corporations of the state government.

After the cabinet meeting, Mann said, “The posts will be filled purely on merit, as per degrees, with no partiality, influence or bribes. We promised to check unemployment and stop migration of youth by creating jobs. It is the first decision of the AAP government soon after getting the authority of a ‘green pen’. The process of advertisement and notification of these jobs would be initiated within a month. The AAP government will fulfil the party’s other ‘guarantees’ soon.”

An official spokesperson said the decision was aimed at opening new vistas of employment for the youth by providing them jobs in the government sector through a transparent and merit-based mechanism.

Mann also tweeted, “Chaired the first cabinet meeting. The Punjab cabinet has approved notification of 25,000 job vacancies within one month. As we promised before the election, job opportunities for Punjab’s youth will be the topmost priority of the AAP government (sic).”

‘My WhatsApp Number’: Punjab CM Mann Announces Anti-Corruption Helpline in First Big Decision

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday announced that an anti-corruption helpline will be launched on March 23, which marks the death anniversary of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, adding that the helpline will “be my personal WhatsApp number”. “If anyone asks you for a bribe, send it to me by recording a video/audio of it. Strict action will be taken against the corrupt,” the CM tweeted.

The CM said the helpline is exclusively for the people to upload videos of corrupt officers, demanding a bribe for their day-to-day work or indulging in other malpractices so that such erring officers could be brought to book, according to a statement from the CM’s office. “99% of the people are honest, while the remaining one per cent degrades the system. I am always with honest (government) officers,” the CM said, also adding that no leader would harass any officers for extortion.

Addressing his first meeting after taking over as the CM, Mann said, “Corrupt officers have no place in my government and if any such complaint comes to my notice, then don’t expect any sort of sympathy for such officers.”
