Challenge Rahul Gandhi to fight against me in Hyderabad: Asaduddin Owaisi

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to fight the Lok Sabha polls next year from Hyderabad, the former’s bastion.

Asaduddin Owaisi has challenged Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to fight against him in Hyderabad.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has thrown down a challenge to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, calling on him to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Hyderabad, the former’s bastion.

“Abki baar Wayanad nahi, abki baar Hyderabad (Contest elections from Hyderabad and not Wayanad),” said Owaisi, referring to Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala.

“You [Rahul Gandhi] keep giving big statements, come to the ground and fight against me. People from Congress will say a lot of things, but I am ready,” he said at a public meeting in Hyderabad on Sunday, September 25.

Owaisi’s salvo against Rahul Gandhi comes days after the Congress leader launched a blistering attack on the four-time Hyderabad MP, accusing him of being in the BJP’s pocket by highlighting the fact that central probe agencies are not investigating him.

“There is no case against AIMIM. Only the opposition is attacked. Modi ji never attacks his own people. He regards your CM and AIMIM leaders as his own, and therefore, there is no case against them,” the Gandhi scion told a gathering in Tukkuguda last week after Congress announced its poll guarantees in Telangana.

Metro rail expansion in Hyderabad! Telangana Cabinet approves Rs 60,000 crore expansion plan; talks about second airport in the city

“We hope they (NDA government at the Centre) will cooperate with us. If this government does not help us, a coalition government would come anyway after 2024. The role of BRS would be crucial in that. We are confident that we will achieve it there,” Rama Rao said.

The Telangana cabinet has approved a Rs 60,000 plan for the expansion of the metro rail network in Hyderabad over the next three-four years. The cabinet meeting was presided over by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

While briefing the reporters on the meeting, State Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao said that a decision has been taken to expand the rail on a large scale to bolster public transport in the city. He said the metro rail expansion would occur on many routes that connect Hyderabad to its outskirts in several directions. He noted that the Chief Minister has already laid the foundation stone for metro rail between Raidurgam to the airport.

“Altogether, the cabinet approved expansion of metro rail with Rs 60,000 crores in addition to the 101 kms taken up earlier. The CM directed our municipal department to complete this project in the coming three-four years,” he added.

Proposals are soon to be submitted by the metro rail authorities and the municipal department. Rama Rao said he hoped that the central government would offer its help in implementing the project just as it did in other cities. However, he added that the state government will take it up itself if the Centre does not help.

“We hope they (NDA government at the Centre) will cooperate with us. If this government does not help us, a coalition government would come anyway after 2024. The role of BRS would be crucial in that. We are confident that we will achieve it there,” he said.

11 migrants burnt alive in Telangana godown blaze

HYDERABAD: Eleven migrant workers from Bihar were burnt alive in sleep after a fire swept through an unauthorised scrap godown in Secunderabad on Wednesday morning. Officials said a short circuit may have started the fire.
Fire officials said a short circuit in a switch board near the stairs on the ground floor may have started the fire which later spread to an LPG cylinder kept nearby, triggering a blast.
It took nearly three hours for five fire tenders to douse the blaze and reach the bodies on the first floor of the godown which were charred beyond recognition. Most of the bodies of the workers, who were in the age group of 20 to 40 years, were found in a heap.

On noticing the inferno and the loud sound, a watchman of a nearby timber depot informed his owner, who in turn called police at 3.59 am and alerted the fire department about the accident at the godown, located in one of the narrow bylanes of Bhoiguda.
When police officers reached the spot, they found the lone survivor lying on the road at some distance, with flames and thick smoke billowing from the godown. The survivor, who identified himself as Prem, said that his co-workers were trapped in the godown. He squeezed through the bars of a window and jumped from the first floor.
