“Send your wife for a night if you want transfer,” UP power department employee burns himself alive after objectionable demand by boss

In a tragic incident reported from Uttar Pradesh, an employee of the UP power corporation burnt himself alive after his boss allegedly asked him to ‘send his wife for a night’ if he wanted a transfer. The deceased has been identified as 45-year-old Gokul Prasad. He worked as a lineman in the department.

Gokul allegedly set himself on fire by pouring diesel outside the junior engineer’s office. The incident took place in Lakhimpur Kheri district. The victim died at a hospital during treatment on Sunday.

Police have now booked the junior engineer Nagendra Kumar and a clerk in connection with the case. The two have also been suspended by the power department, according to a report in NDTV.

A video of the lineman has also gone viral in which he could be seen narrating the sequence of events that led him to take the drastic step. The video was shot after he set himself ablaze.
