Salman Khan was in a steady relationship with actress Sangeeta Bijlani and the two were even set to tie the knot. However, Salman was enamoured by Somy Ali when they worked together and would meet her behind Sangeeta’s back. In fact, it was said that Sangeeta even caught Salman red-handed at Somy’s house. Somy confirmed this in a recent chat.
“Yes, that’s absolutely true,” Somy Ali told Times Now. She recalled, “I was living in Vindyachal (Uttar Pradesh) at that time. Salman used to climb the pipes and come to my room through my window. I found this act of Salman utterly romantic. It was a two-bedroom apartment. However, I remember one day he came over at around 10:30 am when this incident happened. He was still seeing Sangeeta at that time and in fact, their wedding cards had been printed as well.”
Somy said, “Salman and I were sitting and talking in my room and Sangeeta walked in suddenly. She looked at Salman and said, ‘This is it. You have to make a choice.’ Salman told me, ‘Somy I’ll be back in 10 minutes.’ I assumed that he would go ahead and marry Sangeeta since the wedding cards had already been printed. But he came back to the room and told me that he had broken up with Sangeeta and he wanted to be with me. I felt like it was fate.”
Somy recalled her fond memories with Salman and said, “When we were shooting for our first film together, which eventually got shelved, I showed him a picture and told him that I was in India to marry him and that I had no interest in acting. He giggled and told me that he had a girlfriend already. I said, ‘That doesn’t matter, we are going to be together. Our fate is inevitable, you just watch.’ That’s the dream that I had from the Creator. But I was a stupid kid who left Florida to come to India for Salman. Who does that?”
Somy added that years later, she even apologised to Sangeeta for ‘breaking their marriage’. “I told her I was deeply sorry from the bottom of my heart. I was a child then and I did not know what I was doing. She told me ‘I don’t care, I am happily married to Azhar (Azharuddin, cricketer)’ but the next month, she filed for a divorce from him,” she said and added, “I knew that what the 16-year-old Somy Ali did was wrong. She broke up a marriage. I wanted to take the higher road and apologise to Sangeeta.”
