Sharmin Segal has been making headlines ever since she featured in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. In a recent interview, the actress, who is also Bhansali’s niece, recalled her first meeting with Salman Khan during the filming of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
Sharmin was speaking to Zoom when she was asked to name the first celebrity she met in person. The actress named Salman Khan and revealed how the actor had jokingly proposed to her for marriage when she was just two years old. “I was like 2 or 3 something, and he was like, “Will you marry me?” and I said, “No!” she said.
Sharmin further explained that she was too young to understand the meaning of marriage and therefore, would say no to everything.
Meanwhile, Sharmin Segal is currently enjoying the success of Heeramandi. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial was released on Netflix earlier this month but soon became a talking point among audiences for its casting choices. However, Sharmin was recently asked if Bhansali gave her any leeway as she is his niece. “Ulta, I don’t get any leeways. He loves me a lot, I’m not going to deny that. There are days when he’ll look at me like ‘Sharmin, his niece’ when I’m just sitting. When I look at him on a set, I don’t look at him as my uncle. I look at him as Sanjay Leela Bhansali and that’s the respect he has earned throughout his life. I can’t take that away just because I’m related to him. I also can’t change the fact that I’m related to him,” she told Indian Express.
