Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were stunned by Delhi Capitals (DC) in an unbelievable comeback in the fourth game of the IPL 2025. LSG were in a dominant position while batting first as they raced to 161-3 in the 14th over, however, they lost control of the innings and could only make 211-9 in 20 overs.
LSG were again in the driving seat after DC lost six wickets for 113 in the 13th over, however, a magnificent innings of 66 in 31 by Ashutosh Sharma and 39 of 15 by Vipraj Nigam took DC over the line by one wicket.
Rishabh Pant was captaining DC for the first time, however, he did not have a great game. He was dismissed for a six-ball duck in the first innings while he missed a crucial stumping in the final over that could have sealed the game for LSG. With Mohit Sharma at strike, and DC nine wicket down, Pant missed a stumping on the first ball of the 20th over. Sharma was able to rotate the strike on the second ball and Ahustosh Sharma hit a six on the third ball to win the game for Delhi Capitals.

After the defeat, pictures of LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka having a chat with Rishabh Pant went viral. The fans were quick to link the discussion with his animated chat with KL Rahul last year. For the unversed, Goenka had a tense chat with then-skipper KL Rahul after LSG’s defeat to SRH. Many feel Goenka’s behaviour towards Rahul was one of the reasons why KL decided to part ways with the franchise.

Reflecting on the defeat, Rishabh Pant credited Ashutosh Sharma and Vipraj Nigam for DC’s comeback.
“I think our top-order batters played really well and I think it was a pretty good score on this wicket. As a team we are looking to take positives from every match and as a team we are looking to learn from it (every match.) The more basics we do right, the more it is going to be better for us in the future. We got early wickets, but we knew it was a good wicket to bat on. We had to keep doing the basics right more often than not. I think they had a couple of good partnerships. One with Stubbs, with Ashutosh and one with one other guy (Vipraj Nigam.) I think he (Nigam) did a pretty good job and took the game away from us,” Pant said at post match presentation.
