A shocking incident has surfaced near the Khatu Shyam Temple in Rajasthan, where a hotel reportedly charged an elderly woman Rs 805 for using their restroom for just six minutes. In a clear violation of ethics, the hotel took advantage of the woman, who was urgently seeking a clean bathroom during a medical emergency. A family member shared the distressing experience in a LinkedIn post, which has since gone viral.

The elderly woman fell seriously ill on her way to the temple for darshan, suffering from severe stomach cramps and nausea. As she struggled to stand, her family desperately searched for a restroom but found none nearby. The basic public bathing areas were unsuitable for her needs, leaving them with no choice but to approach a nearby hotel.

However, instead of showing compassion, the hotel receptionist demanded over Rs 800 for just a few minutes of restroom access, despite clearly seeing the woman’s fragile condition. Left with no alternative, the family agreed to the exorbitant charge in the face of the emergency.

‘While we were waiting, my mother suddenly started feeling extremely unwell. Nausea, stomach pain, and a strong urge to vomit. Papa looked around desperately for a washroom. While we were taking care of Maa. But there was nothing usable. No washroom near the temple area around 1 km. A few public bathing areas, but no proper restrooms. She was in visible pain, barely able to stand,’ the LinkedIn user posted.

‘We rushed to a nearby hotel and begged the person at the reception— We don’t need a room, just the restroom, just for 5-10 minutes. Please, it’s an emergency. He looked at my mother’s condition… and said, Rs. 800 to use the restroom. We were (in) shock. No empathy. No hesitation.’

‘I’m still trying to understand… How can someone see a woman in pain and still put a price on basic humanity? What have we become?’ a member of the family decried in the LinkedIn post that has gone viral. When her husband asked for the bill, the receptionist took to an illegal practice, absurdly offering the family the choice to pay Rs 100 less if they demanded no proper bill.
