The much-anticipated Captain America: Brave New World, the latest in the Captain America film franchise, hit the theatres worldwide on February 14, and has been receiving some rave reviews for its diverse cast.
While the penultimate installment from Marvel Studios has been the talk of the town among its fans for diverse reasons, Indian fans have been particularly taken aback by a particular scene in the movie. A character playing the role of some world leader in the movie shares an uncanny resemblance with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Social media was quick to catch on it and exploded with reactions as the fans noticed that a scene in the movie, which revolved around a diplomatic discussion among the leaders on a newly discovered rare metal in the Indian Ocean, has a leader at the table, bearing striking resemblance to PM Modi wearing white kurta, jacket, and neatly trimmed white beard. Several amused users shared the screengrab of the scene online.
As the social media continued to brim with reactions, director Julius Onah clarified that the character in the film was not inspired by any of the real-world politician. However, the buzz around the cameo appearance in the movie refused to die down.
The talk of the town character was played by Harsh Nayyar, who gained recognition for portraying Nathuram Godse in Gandhi (1982). His subsequent roles included the comedies Easy Money (1983) and Desperately Seeking Susan. Nayyar, a seasoned actor, who has left his imprint on the Indian and Hollywood movies, was featured in over 50 productions. His work also includes appearances in Boston Legal, The Other Two, and the Indian web series Cyber Vaar – Har Screen Crime Scene.
