Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate three frontline naval combatants INS Surat, INS Nilgiri and INS Vaghsheer to the nation on their commissioning at the Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on Wednesday.

The commissioning represents a significant stride toward India’s vision of becoming a global leader in defence manufacturing and maritime security, according to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

INS Nilgiri, the lead ship of the P17A Stealth Frigate Project, has been indigenously designed by the Indian Navy’s Warship Design Bureau. With cutting-edge technology for enhanced survivability, stealth, and seakeeping, it reflects the next generation of indigenous frigates and India’s growing naval innovation.

INS Surat, the fourth and final ship of the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project, is among the largest and most advanced destroyers globally. Boasting 75% indigenous content, it is equipped with state-of-the-art weapon systems, sensor packages, and advanced network-centric capabilities, reinforcing India’s naval prowess.

INS Vaghsheer, the sixth and final submarine of the P75 Scorpene Project, highlights India’s maturing expertise in submarine construction. Built in collaboration with France’s Naval Group, it further strengthens the Indian Navy’s underwater combat capability.
