Andrew Tate, a controversial social media influencer, was on Friday, given a 30-day detention by a Romanian court in an alleged case of human trafficking, rape and the formation of a criminal group. According to Ramona Bolla, a spokeswoman for Romania’s anti-organised crime and terrorism directorate (DIICOT), four suspects, including Andrew Tate, have been placed on a pre-trial detention for 30 days.
Former professional kickboxer Tate, who is a British-US national, was arrested days after he had a heated exchange with Swedish environmentalist and climate change activist Greta Thunberg. Internet users are speculating that the Twitter spat with Thunberg may have helped the Romanian Police track Tate.

In the controversial tweet, Tate had taunted Thunberg by asking her to provide her email address for sharing the emissions of his swanky vehicles. “Hello @GretaThunberg I have 33 cars. My Bugatti has a w16 8.0L quad turbo. My TWO Ferrari 812 competizione have 6.5L v12s. This is just the start. Please provide your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions,” Tate had said in the tweet.
