The Madras High Court on Thursday issued notices to the Tamil Nadu Director General of Police, the State government and some private firms on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking guidelines to regulate delivery partners of online aggregators such as Swiggy, Zomato, Zepto etc, and to ensure safety of customers receiving deliveries from such partners.
Justice P Velmurugan directed all respondent parties including the private aggregator firms to respond to the notices within four weeks.
The Court was hearing a PIL filed by one Nithyanantham, claiming that such delivery personnel did not have strict rules mandating the wearing of proper uniforms, displaying their ID cards etc. Thus, miscreants and criminals often take advantage of this and indulge in theft and other offences while posing as delivery partners, it said.
