The caller, identifying himself as a police officer, claimed that the businessman’s son had been arrested in a kidnapping case. He warned of immediate imprisonment if he was not paid promptly
A shocking incident unfolded recently involving a businessman in Rajasthan’s Alwar. The man received an unexpected call from an unknown number and heard his son’s voice filled with panic. ‘Papa, save me!’ he pleaded.
The incident occurred on December 7. The caller, identifying himself as a police officer, claimed that Ramavatar’s son had been arrested in a kidnapping case. The alleged officer demanded Rs 3 lakh to clear the son’s name, threatening imprisonment if the money wasn’t sent immediately.
Ramavatar was shocked and unsure of what to do. He turned to his neighbour, Satya Vijay, another businessman, for help.
Satya Vijay, upon checking the number and seeing the WhatsApp display picture, which was of a policeman, quickly identified it as a potential cyber fraud. He recounted a similar incident involving his nephew who had received threats and demands for money.
Realising it was indeed a scam, Ramavatar told the caller that he was involving the police in the call. The fraudster immediately disconnected.
