The controversy began when Sidhu credited a strict diet, including natural remedies such as neem, turmeric, lemon, water, and beetroot, for helping his wife overcome her cancer
Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of Congress leader and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, has been served with Rs 850 crore notice by the Chhattisgarh Civil Society (CCS) over claims made by her husband regarding her battle with stage 4 cancer.
The CCS has demanded an apology from Sidhu and threatened legal action against Kaur unless she presents evidence to support the controversial claims, made by her husband, within seven days.
The controversy began when Sidhu credited a strict diet, including natural remedies such as neem, turmeric, lemon, water, and beetroot, for helping his wife overcome her cancer.
Sidhu’s statement, which was made in an interview, sparked significant backlash from medical professionals, including oncologists, who strongly disagreed with these unverified claims.
Chhattisgarh Civil Society Convener Dr. Kuldeep Solanki issued a statement highlighting the dangers of promoting such unproven methods. The society argued that misrepresentation of cancer treatment could endanger the health of other patients, as per Business Standard report.
Dr. Solanki further warned that false claims about alternative cancer treatments could cause confusion and encourage cancer patients to stop their prescribed medication, putting their lives at greater risk.
Navjot Sidhu Issues Clarification
In response to the controversy, Navjot Singh Sidhu on Monday had clarified his earlier comments. The Congress leader posted a video message on social media, assuring the public that the diet plan followed by his wife was implemented in consultation with medical professionals. He stressed that the diet was not an alternative to medical treatment but rather a supportive measure alongside conventional therapies.
