Former Bihar DGP Gupteshwar Pandey criticised the Mumbai Police for its handling of Sushant Singh Rajput death case and said that their actions “caused suspicion” in the minds of the people. Pandey’s statements come as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a closure report in the case.
Pandey accused the Mumbai Police of not cooperating with Bihar Police during the initial investigation. He clarified that he never claimed that the Bollywood actor was murdered but only found the death suspicious and wanted to conduct a detailed investigation. Sushant Singh Rajput was found hanging from the ceiling of his apartment in suburban Bandra in Mumbai on June 14, 2020. He was 34.
“…When news of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death came, the matter died down within 20 days. After 20 days, his father lodged a case in Patna for the investigation of which a team was sent. But Maharashtra Police did not cooperate. I sent an IPS officer for better coordination. But quarantined him,” Pandey told ANI.
“I don’t need to be biased against anyone but during that time, the kind of conduct that was displayed by Mumbai Police caused suspicions in the minds of people in the country… I did not get the chance to investigate. My team was turned away after 5 days and another officer was quarantined for 10 days. So, Bihar Police team did not even get the chance to investigate,” he said.
“There could still be a suspicion that CBI did not get all evidence or maybe some evidence was even destroyed. But I never said that Sushant Singh Rajput was murdered…I just said that it was a suspicious death and should be murdered. Had Mumbai Police handled the case well and held a press conference and answered all questions, Mumbai Police would not have been defamed…” he added.
On CBI filing the closure report, Pandey said, “I don’t want to say anything on CBI’s closure report because it is a professional agency. What else can it do if it can’t find evidence?…”
Around five years after Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Mumbai apartment, the Central Investigation Bureau (CBI) has filed a closure report in the case. The CBI has filed two separate closure reports related to Rajput’s death, one in the abetment to suicide case filed by his father, and another by the actor’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty against his sisters.
The CBI submitted its findings on Rajput’s father K K Singh’s complaint in a closure report before a special court in Patna, while the closure report in the second case was submitted before a special court in Mumbai.
