The Mumbai Indians (MI) registered their first victory of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Monday (March 31) after thumping Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by a whopping margin of eight wickets with 43 balls remaining at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Coming off two defeats in a row, the Hardik Pandya-led side handed a debut to Ashwini Kumar, who had played just two T20 matches in his career before this match. The left-arm pacer added to MI’s rich list of uncapped stars as he won the Player of the Match (POTM) after becoming the first Indian to take a four-wicket haul on IPL debut. The 23-year-old dismissed Ajinkya Rahane, Rinku Singh, Manish Pandey, and Andre Russell.
Later, the five-time champions cruised to the target as Ryan Rickleton hit his first-ever IPL half-century while Suryakumar Yadav played a handy cameo of 27 in just nine balls.

The victory marked the 10th instance in 12 meetings of MI defeating Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium. This makes the Mumbai-based franchise the first team in the history of the league to win 10 matches at a single venue against the same opponent. The league’s joint most successful side shared this record with the defending champions, who have beaten Punjab Kings (PBKS) nine times in Kolkata.
MI and KKR share the record of the most wins at an away venue, having beaten Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) eight times at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru
