The Union Home Ministry has decided to deploy 50 additional companies of Central Armed Police Forces to Manipur to manage the escalating violence and volatile situation in the state.
AFSPA Clamped Down In Violence-Hit Jiribam
This comes days after the central government reimposed the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in six police station areas, including violence-hit Jiribam.
The northeastern state has been on edge following fresh violence after clashes between the Meiteis and the Kukis. The conflict, which began over a year ago, has led to widespread unrest.
Jiribam Deaths Spark Fresh Protests
Last week, the abduction and murder of six individuals — three women and three children — by suspected insurgents from Jiribam district, sparked further outrage. Their bodies were found in Assam five days later.
