Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar announced on Saturday that the state government will provide free cancer vaccines to girls aged 0-14, citing growing concerns over the increasing number of cancer cases across the state.
Abitkar, as per ANI, said, “With lifestyle changes, cancer cases are rising in both rural and urban areas. Previously, it was often linked to specific addictions, but now it’s being detected across all age groups, including children. This is highly concerning,” Abitkar said.
To tackle the issue, the state government has decided to launch a free cancer vaccination program.
“We have requested Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar to approve free cancer vaccinations for girls aged 0-14. He has agreed to implement this initiative through the Maharashtra government,” Abitkar added.
Bird Flu Concerns in Vidarbha
In addition to cancer prevention measures, the Maharashtra government is also addressing health concerns related to bird flu in Vidarbha. Abitkar stated that while bird flu has been detected in crows, there is no confirmed human infection.
