Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) lawyer reached the Sealdah court 50 minutes late to oppose the bail plea filed by the prime accused in Kolkata Doctor’s rape and murder case Sanjay Roy.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pamela Gupta on Friday emphasised the gravity of the situation and the need for more prompt action from the CBI.
Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) lawyer reached the Sealdah court 50 minutes late to oppose the bail plea of Sanjay Roy, stating that it would hamper the investigation. As they kept the court waiting, ACJM Gupta at one point asked, “Should I grant bail to Sanjay Roy?”
As the lawyer was not present in the court, the magistrate asked the CBI officer to call him. The officer present in the court, who identified herself as the assistant investigating officer, stepped out of the courtroom and made a call. Upon returning, the officer said that the lawyer was on his way. “It is gross negligence on the part of CBI,” said the magistrate.
