Even as the mandate is almost clear and Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his victory speech at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters on Tuesday night, the cliffhanger situation still remains with all eyes of Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu, who will be the kingmaker as BJP fails to reach majority on its own.
NDA managed to get 292 seats, with the result on one seat still pending and the INDIA bloc won 233 seats. The BJP, which had set a target of 370 seats, won 240 seats and was leading on one seat, falling short of the majority mark of 272 and significantly below exit poll forecasts. The Congress won over 99 seats, a substantial increase from its 2019 tally of 52 seats. Others, including regional outfits and Independents, won 17 seats.
Kangana Ranaut (BJP, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh) – Wins by 74,755 votes
Actor Kangana Ranaut won her debut election on a BJP ticket from Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi by defeating Vikramaditya Singh by 72,088 votes. She polled 5,37,002 votes against 4,62,267 votes polled to King of erstwhile Rampur state, who is also the sitting state Public Works Minister and son of six-time chief minister Virbhadra Singh and state Congress chief Pratibha Singh.
She celebrated her victory in Mandi with an Instagram post. She wrote, “Heartfelt gratitude to all the people of Mandi for this love and trust. This victory belongs to all of you, this is the victory of trusting Prime Minister Modi and BJP, this is the victory of Sanatan, this is the victory of honoring the market.”
Hema Malini (BJP, Mathura, Uttar Pradesh) – Wins by 2,43,140 votes
Hema Malini secured her third consecutive term in the Lok Sabha from Mathura, receiving 5,10,064 votes. Her nearest rival, Mukesh Dhangar of the Congress, garnered 2,93,407 votes. Hema Malini also won the seat in 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
After winning the seat for the third time, expressing her excitement, Hema Malini told media, “I am very happy that I am getting a chance to serve people for the third time, I thank people. I am getting an opportunity to complete all the work that was left incomplete. I also thank the workers of our alliance.”
Suresh Gopi (BJP, Thrissur, Kerala) – Wins by 75,686 votes
Actor-turned-politician Suresh Gopi, another BJP candidate, registered victory in Kerala’s Thrissur constituency by gathering 4,12,338 votes. Gopi defeated VS Sunilkumar of the Communist Party of India by 74,686 votes. This is the BJP’s first-ever Lok Sabha seat in the state.
Manoj Tiwari (BJP, Northeast Delhi) – Wins by 7,89,247 votes
Tiwari, a former Bhojpuri cinema star and BJP’s candidate from North East Delhi, trounced Congress rival Kanhaiya Kumar by a margin of over 1.38 lakh votes.
This is Tiwari’s third win in a row from the seat. In the 2024 general elections, he secured 8,24,451 votes. He was the only sitting MP from Delhi retained by the BJP for the 18th Lok Sabha polls.
