Amid controversy over his remarks on Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, comedian Kunal Kamra has requested more time to appear before the Mumbai Police and has been receiving death threats from Shiv Sena workers.
According to NDTV sources, Kamra has received at least 500 calls in which people have threatened to kill him and cut him to pieces (Kaat Denge Tumhe)
During a show at the Habitat Comedy Club in Mumbai’s Khar, Kunal Kamra performed a satirical rendition of Bholi Si Surat from the 1997 film Dil To Pagal Hai, making indirect remarks about the Shiv Sena chief without naming him. The song included the word gaddar (traitor), widely interpreted as a reference to Eknath Shinde’s 2022 split from Shiv Sena and his alliance with the BJP, which led to the fall of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government.
