Four back-to-back earthquakes jolted parts of Kashmir valley on Tuesday morning with the strongest one being a 4.9 magnitude quake which occurred at 6:45 am. Strong tremors were felt in several parts of the state as the quake hit Baramulla and surrounding areas.
The other earthquakes measured magnitude 4.4 and magnitude 4.8 on the richter scale.
The four earthquakes occurred within just minutes, triggering panic among locals who stepped out of their homes for their safety. Some moved to safer places amid anticipation of more tremors.
The first tremors were felt at 6:45 am on Tuesday and within just four minutes, another strong earthquake was reported. People in Baramulla, Bandipura, Sopore, Srinagar, Soyibug, and Skardu felt the tremors.
National Center for Seismology confirmed in a post on X that the earthquake measured 4.9 magnitude and occurred at 06:45:57 IST. The epicenter was Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir.
