Ishan Kishan’s dismissal sparked controversy during the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI). Kishan’s poor run of form continued after being dismissed for a knock of one against MI as SRH’s top order collapsed. Kishan walked off despite no appeal from the MI players.
Ishan Kishan left the cricketing fraternity perplexed with a rather bizarre sequence of events in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday (April 23) in Hyderabad.
Kishan’s poor run of form continued as he was dismissed for a single-digit score for the second time in a row against his former side. However, his dismissal sparked controversy as the left-handed batter departed despite no appeal from the MI.
For those unversed, Kishan was dismissed after seemingly edging a delivery by Deepak Chahar after making one run in four balls. However, there was no appeal from Mumbai players apart from a slight enquiry with each other, after which the umpire declared him not out. However, Kishan walked off on his own and did not wait to see if MI took a review, which indicated that he had edged the delivery.
MI player rushed to Ishan to hail for his sporting gesture, but the replays shocked everyone around the ground as ultra-edge did not show a spike of Kishan’s bat.
This left many to question Kishan for his decision to walk off, especially during a tough phase on a personal front, while his team is also struggling for results.
Talking about the match, SRH made a disastrous start as Trent Boult dismissed Travis Head for a duck in the second over of the game. SRH found themselves at 14-4 after Kishan’s dismissal was followed by Abhishek Sharma (8) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (2) with Boult and Chahar getting two wickets each.
At the half-way, SRH had 52 runs after losing five wickets as Hardik Pandya dismissed Aniket Verma (12). Heinrich Klaasen is the only hope of the 2024 runners-up to get a respectable total on the board.
SRH are playing for survival in the tournament with just two wins in seven matches so far. Last week, MI beat the Pat Cummins-led side by four wickets at the Wankhede Stadium.
