Principal Vimukta Sharma (54) died of her burn injuries after ex-student Ashutosh Shrivastava (24) allegedly poured petrol on her and set her on fire.
The principal of BM Pharmacy College, Vimukta Sharma, who was set on fire by a former student succumbed to her burn injuries at Choitram Hospital on Saturday morning. Vimukta Sharma died at around 4 am today, her brother Arvind Tiwari said.
Vimukta Sharma had suffered over 90 percent burn injuries after a former student, Ashutosh Shrivastava, (24) in Simrol area on February 20 set her on fire by allegedly pouring petrol on her as the latter had not got his B.Pharma marksheet, police said. Following the incident, she was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital by her college colleagues, from where she was referred to Choitram hospital.
A police assistant sub-inspector in Indore in Madhya Pradesh has been placed under suspension for alleged negligence of duty in connection with a case, news agency PTI reported. Meanwhile, the Indore administration has initiated National Security Act (NSA) proceedings against Ashutosh Shrivastava.
“During the probe, we found two to three complaints were made against Srivastava by the pharmacy college authorities, the woman principal and other staff, who claimed the accused was threatening suicide,” Superintendent of Police (Rural) Bhagwat Singh Virde told PTI.
