Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was forced to retire hurt at a score of 11 when India squared off against the West Indies in the third match of the five-game T20I series on Tuesday. Leading Team India’s attack with the willow in the 3rd T20I against Nicholas Pooran-led West Indies, the veteran opener reportedly pulled a muscle near his waist during the 165-run chase of the Men In Blue at the Warner Park in Basseterre.
Nicknamed the Hitman, Rohit had smoked a six and four off Alzarri Joseph during India’s run chase at Basseterre. Rohit visibly looked in some discomfort after taking the Windies bowler to the cleaners in the second over. Following a brief discussion with Team India’s physio Kamlesh Jain, Rohit was seen leaving the field holding his back. After Rohit was declared retired hurt in the 3rd T20I between the two former world champions, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared an update on the Indian skipper.

With India parting ways with Rohit early in its innings, makeshift opener Suryakumar Yadav and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant laid the foundation of the successful run chase. Suryakumar top scored for India as his sublime knock of 76 off 44 balls guided India to a 7-wicket win over the West Indies. Sharing an important update about the injury scare in the post-match ceremony, Indian skipper Rohit revealed that will recover from the back spasm ahead of the 4th T20I.
