WorldIn World Court, Indian Judge Votes Against Russia For Invading UkraineMarch 17, 20221 minute read Kyiv dragged Moscow to the UN’s top court days after Russia’s attack on February 24 The UN’s top court on Wednesday ordered Russia to suspend its invasion of Ukraine, saying it was “profoundly concerned” by Moscow’s use of force. “The Russian Federation shall immediately suspend military operations that it commenced on 24 February on the territory of Ukraine,” pending the final decision in the case, presiding judge Joan Donoghue told the International Court of Justice, or ICJ. “The court is profoundly concerned about the use of force by the Russian Federation which raises very serious issues in international law,” Justice Donoghue told a hearing in The Hague. Kyiv dragged Moscow to the UN’s top court days after Russia’s attack on February 24. India’s judge at the ICJ, Justice Dalveer Bhandari, also voted against Russia. Justice Bhandari was nominated to the ICJ entirely on the support of the government and various missions over a period of time. Justice Bhandari voting against Russia, though an independent move based on his interpretation of the Russia-Ukraine issue, is different from what India’s official position has been in different international fora. India has abstained from voting on the Ukraine-Russia issue in the UN and instead called on both sides to focus on negotiations and end hostilities. Ukraine accuses Russia of illegally trying to justify its war by falsely alleging genocide in Ukraine’s Donetsk and Lugansk regions. Kyiv then asked the ICJ to take provisional measures ordering Russia to “immediately suspend the military operations.” Source : https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/in-world-court-indian-judge-justice-dalveer-bhandari-votes-against-russia-for-invading-ukraine-2827412 Total 0 Shares Share 0 Tweet 0 Pin it 0 Share 0 Share 0 Share 0 Share 0 Share 0 Previous Article World International Court of Justice orders Russia to suspend invasion of Ukraine March 17, 2022 View Post Next Article World In a first since border stand-off, Chinese foreign minister plans to visit India soon March 17, 2022 View Post You May Also Like View Post World Prince Harry ‘not overly happy’ with Meghan Markle using their kids to promote her brand: royal editor April 7, 2025 View Post World Michelle Williams calls out flight passenger for ‘nasty’ behavior in first class: ‘A lot of audacity’ April 7, 2025 View Post World ‘White Lotus’ Finale: [SPOILER] Dies in the Shootout, and What Happens to Everyone Else?
