The Smart India Hackathon will culminate in its Grand Finale. It will be held at IIT Roorkee from 11 December to 15 December. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with young innovators via videoconferencing at the Grand Finale of SIH 2024 on 11 December 2024.
The Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024, is all set to conclude in its Grand Finale which will be held at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) from December 11 to December 15. With its 7th edition, SIH continues to fulfil our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India self-reliant through youth empowerment. IIT Roorkee has a glorious name with a legacy of 177 years when it comes to technological excellence and societal transformation.
It has been at the forefront in terms of innovations that have been carried out in India, always aligning with national initiatives like the Smart India Hackathon and National Education Policy (NEP 2020). Through pioneering efforts such as the TMI-102 (Tinkering & Mentoring) course and an active Innovation and Incubation Cell (IIC), IIT Roorkee cultivates entrepreneurial talent and fosters critical thinking.
With 10,800 finalists, the SIH 2024 grand finale will kick-start on December 11. The Software Edition will run nonstop for 36 hours, while the Hardware Edition will continue from 11th to 15th December 2024. Like past editions, the student teams will work on either the problem statements given by Ministries or Departments or Industries or submit their ideas in the Student Innovation Category against any of the 17 themes linked to sectors of national importance. These sectors are – Healthcare, Supply chain and Logistics, Smart Technologies, Heritage and Culture, Sustainability, Education and Skill Development, Water, Agriculture and Food, Emerging Technologies, and Disaster Management.
As part of the Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2024, IIT Roorkee is serving as a Nodal Centre, hosting groundbreaking challenges from leading organizations. The National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO) has introduced three advanced problem statements: Automatic Change Detection in Synthetic Aperture Radar Images (SIH1563), Automatic Road Extraction and Alert Generation (SIH1564), and Target Detection Using AI/ML in Hyperspectral Image Processing (SIH1565), with five teams competing in each. The Government of Himachal Pradesh presents Drone-Based Intelligent Systems for Apple Orchard Management (SIH1611) to improve precision agriculture, while Godrej has proposed Innovating for Sustainability: Smart Resource Conservation (SIH1524), focusing on energy and water efficiency in home appliances. Each challenge involves five teams developing innovative solutions. Spanning sectors like sustainability, advanced technology, and agriculture, these problem statements emphasize SIH 2024’s pivotal role in nurturing innovation and advancing national progress.
The Nodal In-Charge for SIH at IIT Roorkee said “This year’s hackathon at IIT Roorkee will showcase cutting-edge technological solutions. We are proud to host teams working on crucial problem statements, from sustainability to space technology. It’s a privilege to contribute to the nation’s innovation journey.”
The grand finale will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will inspire the youth with his visionary address, this event fosters collaboration between students, industry leaders, and expert mentors. The participants will be presenting ground-breaking solutions to real-world challenges including satellite-based road mapping, energy-efficient smart devices and agritech innovations using drones.
