Kangana Ranaut got death threats by a Punjabi influencer ahead the release of her much-awaited movie Emergency for showcasing Sikhs in a bad light
Bollywood filmmaker and actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has been promoting her upcoming film Emergency. After being postponed multiple times, the movie is all set to release on the big screens on September 6, 2024. The movie marks her first solo directorial project and is based on the Indian Emergency which unfolded in 1975 under the leadership of the then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. After a backlash from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), who demanded a band on the film, now a video of a few influencers giving her a death threat for releasing the film has gone viral on social media.
Kangana, who has earlier made headlines for her anti-Sikh and anti-Punjab comments, has been accused of character assassinating Sikhs in the much-awaited film. In the video, that is now doing rounds on social media, Punjabi influencer Viky Thomas Singh is seen threatening her with “dire consequences”. In the video that has resurfaced on X (formerly known as Twitter), he is heard expressing that history cannot be changed.
He goes on to warn the filmmaker if they portray Sikh in a bad light in their film then they should remember how the then-Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi was killed. Quoted by the Free Press Journal, he said, “If they portray Sikhs as terrorists in the film, fir yaad rakhna jiska movie kar rahi hai uska kya scene hua tha. Remember who Satwant Singh and Beant Singh were. Jo hume ungli karte hai, vo ungli hi chatka dete hai hum… Agar hum sar katwa sakte hai toh sar kaat bhi sakte hai.”

Another man goes on to bash her and state that even after the threats if she does release the film, she will get hit by shoes, just like she was slapped. Calling himself a “proud Indian,” he said that his brothers from other religions will also hit her. The man added, “If I spot you anywhere in my country and in my Maharashtra, I’m saying this, not just as a Sikh and a proud Marathi, but all my Hindu, Christian and Muslim brothers will also welcome you with chappals.”
As soon as the video went viral, netizens expressed their shock over the influences openly threatening the life of not only an established actress but also a BJP MP. Resharing the video on her X handle, Kangana asked for help from Maharashtra, Himanchal, and Punjab police officials.
