Kolkata: A total of 615 motorists were fined by the city traffic police for honking unnecessarily in February. Police imposed a compounded fine of Rs 2,000 on such offenders.
According to the traffic police, an average of 22 cases per day were registered during traffic police’s anti-honking drive last month. Cops said an increasing number rule violations indicates that the general patience level is dipping among motorists, reported the Times of India.
“It was in July last year that special anti-honking drives were launched across the city, especially outside vaccine centres and hospitals. At that time, as many as 1,264 motorists were prosecuted in just 12 days, an average of 222 challans per day,” an officer of anti-pollution cell of the traffic police department was quoted as saying by TOI.
