An encounter broke out earlier in the day after security forces launched a search operation in the area on Wednesday night and terrorists opened fire at them.
Five terrorists have been killed during an encounter with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Thursday, officials said, reported PTI. The area was cordoned off after the forces launched an operation at Kadder in the Behibagh area of the district on Wednesday night.
Officials said they had received inputs about the presence of suspected terrorists in the area. The search operation turned into an encounter as the terrorists opened fire on the security forces.
Hizbul Mujahideen’s longest surviving commander Farooq Ahmad Bhat alias Farooq Nali was also among one of those killed in the operation.

“Bodies of five terrorists are lying in the orchards but have not been retrieved yet,” an official added, as per PTI.
As per the latest information, the eliminated terrorists were locals. They were in the house when an initial Cordon was laid down by the 34RR of Indian Army, Special Operations Group of J&K Police.
