The counting of votes for the polls held to elect members of 143 panchayat samitis and 22 zilla parishads in Haryana was held on Sunday and BJP led the race with 58 seats while Congress managed to bag 26 and AAP opened its account with 6 wins.
By Manjeet Sehgal: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led the race for the Haryana panchayat election with 58 seats with Congress following in second with 26 seats. Meanwhile, the AAP also managed to open its account with six wins.
The counting of the votes for the polls held to elect members of 143 panchayat samitis and 22 zilla parishads in Haryana was done on Sunday.
So far, the wins are as follows:
BJP- 58
Cong – 26
AAP- 5
JJP – 14
INLD – 6
BSP- 5
Independent – 95
Closely behind the Congress was the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) with 14 wins. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) had a close fight, with the former winning six seats and BSP cinching five seats.
By a big margin, the INLD’s Karan Chautala won from zila parishad in Sirsa by 600 votes.
The highest number of wins in the election, however, came from independent candidates as 95 of them managed to win without a party symbol boosting their votes.
The counting began at 8 am on Sunday with heavy security arrangements at the counting centres.
The elections for the panchayat samitis and zila parishads were held in three phases.
