The 2016 romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam is back in the spotlight, this time for breaking its original box office record. Known for its emotional depth and unforgettable soundtrack, the film is experiencing a resurgence in popularity. It also marked the Hindi film debuts of Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane.
Now, in a recent interview, Harshvardhan has urged the public not to judge newcomers based on the film’s performance, highlighting the challenges faced by fresh talent.
This unexpected success has sparked conversations around the film’s continued relevance and appeal, especially among newer audiences discovering it for the first time. With its growing viewership, Sanam Teri Kasam is proving that even years after its release, it continues to make an impact at the box office.
While talking with Bollywood Bubble, Harshvardhan mentioned, “Jo Aap Logone Mere Saath Kiya Tha, Please New Comers Ke Saath Mat Karna”
“Nahi Toh Agar Achhi Movie Ko Support Nahi Mila, Toh Uska Re-Release Karna Padega, Just like ‘Sanam Teri Kasam” he added.
Over the years, however, Sanam Teri Kasam gained a cult following, leading the makers to re-release the film on February 7 in response to public demand. The re-release sparked a massive wave of excitement, and within just three days, the film earned double its original box office earnings.
While talking to News18 Showsha, Harshvardhan said, “Break-up jab hota hai, dil toot ta hi hai. People, who try to be cool and say that they are unfazed, lie. I can also say that the failure of Sanam Teri Kasam didn’t bother me but I won’t because it really broke my heart,”
He went on to say, “I wouldn’t want to watch a film with unknown faces. We were so new at that time. So, it would be wrong for me to expect people to spend money and watch our film. Over the years, I kept telling myself to accept it and move on. Today, I understand the science and commerce behind filmmaking. I now know why people didn’t watch Sanam Teri Kasam in theatres,”
Harshvardhan admitted that the film’s disappointing box office performance deeply affected him, to the point where he distanced himself from both the filmmakers and his co-star, Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane.
