Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, at the India Economic Conclave, stated the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is not against any religion.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, speaking at the India Economic Conclave (IEC), stated the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is not against any religious group. Attacking the opposition, Dhami stated that the opposition just wants to oppose everything that the government does. Citing the construction of Ayodhya Ram Mandir, he said the temple was a years-old dispute since the time of the Congress government. “People wished to have a temple at the birthplace of Ram; even the opposition believes in Ram and prays to him.”
But he said they did not attend the Pran Pratishta ceremony because they did not want to lose the certain vote bank. On being questioned about favouring the particular community and bringing UCC by the Editor-in-Chief, Times Now and Times Now Navbharat, Navika Kumar, Dhami said, “UCC is not against any religious group.”
He further added, “According to Article 44 of the Indian Constitution, the mention of the UCC is very clear, stating that it should be implemented in the country. At the time when the Indian constitution was in the making, it could not be implemented as there was no consensus.”
In Uttarakhand, we introduced the UCC bill after the people of the state gave us a clear mandate, he said. Before the elections, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we promised the public that if voted to power, the first thing that our government would do is ‘implement UCC.’.
“Hamen jo sankalp liya tha wo hamne poora kiya (We did what we promised the public),” he said further.
“Aur isko lagu krna itna samanaye nahi hai, Uttarakhand devbhoomi hai…Uttarakhand ek sainik bahulaye pradesh hai. Aur Uttarakhand ke har pariwar se koi sena mein hai…koi ardsainiki balo mein hai…koi kisi anaya seema par kaam kar raha hai… Har parivar se koi na koi desh ki seva kar raha hai… (And implementing this was not that simple; Uttarakhand is the land of gods… Uttarakhand is a state rich in soldiers… and from every family in Uttarakhand, there is someone in the army, someone in paramilitary forces, or someone working at some border… Every family has someone serving the nation,” he said.
“”Do dham hain, do-do antarashtriya seemayon se laga hua pradesh hai… isiliye is pradesh mein rehne waale har ek vyakti ke liye… chahe wo kisi bhi jaati ka ho… pant ka ho… samudaye ka ho… sabke liye ek samaan kanoon layenge…” (There are two pilgrimages, and the state is bordered by two international borders… that’s why for every person living in this state, regardless of their caste, religion, or community… we will bring one equal law for all.)
