Generations of Newcastle United fans have waited for silverware but that finally came to an end on Sunday when the Magpies beat Liverpool 2-1 in the Carabao Cup final to win their first major domestic trophy in 70 years.
After Dan Burn opened the score in the first half, Alexander Isak made it 2-0 in the second half.
Isak has now scored 27 goals in 37 appearances for club and country this season, equalling his best-ever single-season tally he set in 2023/24 (27 goals in 46 apps).

Newcastle last won silverware in the 1954–55 FA Cup. The Toons beat Manchester City 3–1 in the final at Wembley, with goals from Jackie Milburn, Bobby Mitchell, and George Hannah.

Newcastle United: ‘Us against the World’
Several Newcastle players have credited Eddie Howe with being key to improving them. His day begins at 6 AM and goes on till late evening. But his players love the method of madness. Burn, who etched his name in the history books, said: “What I find crazy about the gaffer’s training is that we never seem to do the same session twice.”
“He has so many sessions saved and every single day is something completely new. I really enjoy training and it’s something I look forward to every day,” he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“First and foremost he wants to know how you are as a person rather than as just a footballer, that’s what sets him above other managers I’ve worked under,” Burn told Newcastle’s official website.
