Sargun Mehta and Ravi Dubey, who began their careers as television actors, ventured into production, gaining recognition for their hit daily soap Udaariyaan. In a recent interview, the duo opened up about their journey into production, the challenges they faced, and what inspired them to take this leap. Interestingly, Sargun revealed that they suffered a massive loss of ₹70 lakh while setting up the show’s production.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Sargun Mehta opened up about the challenges she and Ravi Dubey faced while creating Udaariyaan without any prior experience. Their inexperience led to a major financial setback when they fell victim to a ₹70 lakh fraud during the show’s set construction. Recalling the incident, Sargun shared, “Udaariyaan ke waqt we emptied our accounts. And humara jab set baan raha tha, kisine fraud kiya 70 lakhs. I remember mein set se bahar nikli and Ravi was at shoot for Matsya Kaand. (During Udaariyaan, we emptied our accounts. And when our set was being built, someone committed fraud worth ₹70 lakhs. I remember stepping out of the set while Ravi was shooting for Matsya Kaand).” She revealed that she was so furious during a confrontation with the art director that her security had to hold her back. To make matters worse, the show was scheduled to air in just 15 days, but all they had was a blank floor.
Sargun added that later she cried in the car, wondering if they had made the wrong decision or if becoming producers was too much responsibility for them. However, Ravi remained calm and supportive. She narrated, “Ravi was being calm and said, ‘Gayi na? Nazar utar gayii, aa jayega kaam karo. Dobara kama lenge.’ Those 4-5 months were a nightmare (Ravi stayed calm and said, ‘It’s gone, right? The bad luck is gone. Work hard, and we’ll earn it back).”
