In a bizarre turn of events, a wedding in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi saw the groom taken hostage by the bride’s family, who are demanding reimbursement for the wedding preparations. The family called off the wedding after they found out that the groom allegedly had an affair with another woman.
The groom, identified as Sohanlal Yadav from Ayodhya, went missing just days before the wedding. His family filed a missing person complaint, but the bride’s family, unaware of this, went ahead with the wedding arrangements.
On the day of the wedding, as guests began arriving, the groom was nowhere to be found, according to NDTV report.

The bride’s family learned of the situation only after being called to the local police station, where the groom eventually agreed to the marriage under police pressure. He arrived at the bride’s home with his procession around 2.30 am. By this time, the bride’s family came to know about his alleged affair. They treated him to a meal but announced that the wedding was off. They also refused to let him leave unless his family compensated them for the wedding expenses.

The groom, seated in a decorated car outside the bride’s home, denied he was ever missing. “I had not disappeared; I was in Lucknow. My phone stopped working, and when I turned it back on, the police called me. I wanted to marry, but they are now saying they don’t want the wedding and are demanding money,” he said.
The bride’s father, Lal Bahadur Yadav, shared the ordeal, stating that the wedding was fixed 10 months ago and that they had agreed to all of the groom’s demands, including a car and later cash, after the Tilak ceremony.
