New Delhi: A social media post going viral on social media platforms claims that the Government of India has raised the retirement age of employees. Here, we will fact-check the viral claim.

The post claims that the Government of India has raised the age of retirement of central government employees to 62 years.

However, the claim was found to be false as the Indian government has made no such decision. The Press Information Bureau of the Government of India checked the viral claim and clarified the post doing rounds on the internet was fake.

The PIB, in a post on X, said that the central government has not made any such decision to raise the retirement age of central government employees.

Moreover, in August 2023, the government confirmed in the Lok Sabha that there is no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age of central government employees.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh on August 9 said there is no proposal under consideration to change the retirement age of Central Government employees.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Mr. Singh said 122 government officers have been given compulsory retirement in the last three years under different provisions of service rules.
