The civil suit filed by Wunderbar was mentioned on Wednesday before a bench presided over by Justice Abdul Quddhose.
Actor Dhanush’s production house, Wunderbar Films, has moved Madras High Court against actor Nayanthara Kurian, her husband Vignesh Sivan, and others, alleging copyright infringement over the use of visuals from the 2015 movie Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in the Netflix docu-drama Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale.
Naanum Rowdy Dhaan was produced by Dhanush under the banner of Wunderbar Films and Nayanthara was the female lead in the movie. Footage from the movie has allegedly been used in the Netflix documentary about Nayanathara.
The civil suit filed by Wunderbar was mentioned on Wednesday before a bench presided over by Justice Abdul Quddhose.
Wunderbar Films also sought the High Court’s permission to implead Los Gatos Production Services India LLP, Netflix’s parent company, within the territorial jurisdiction of the Madras High Court.
Advocate General and Senior counsel PS Raman, who appeared for Wunderbar in his personal capacity, urged the High Court to allow it to sue Las Gatos as well.
Their prayer was opposed by Senior Counsel Sathish Parasaran and advocate R Parthasarathy, who appeared for Nayanthara and Netflix India.
However, Justice Quddhose allowed Wunderbar’s application to implead Las Gatos after noting that other parties including Nayanthara, Sivan and Rowdy Pictures were located within the jurisdiction of the Madras High Court and a major part of the cause of action had arisen over here.
